We should have a section before the comments on all submissions that can act as a way for users to update ideas with concepts from comments and sum any changes up quickly so users don't have to go through the comments to be up to speed on where a idea stands.
We won't be able to actually change the original submission but we can bring interested people up to speed quicker on any changes that have happened if they choose to open the updates section. This would save Quirky tons of time and would help ideas grow and change over time while not confusing base users who don't care to comment on an idea.
We could include images and things to illustrate refined concepts, and since voters may or may not be actually reading the comments anyway this wouldn't change anything except make it streamlined and easier to use for everyone.
An update-able area on ideas for the idea submitter to sum up comments if changes are made to an idea.

A "Changes by the Ideator" section is one of the ideas we're considering. Please get fellow community members to chime in on this thread, so we can gauge interest in this feature.
-
-
If it helps the community curate the ideas, and it doesn't affect how well Quirky can use the results of the votes and ratings, then do it.
It's a much more valid help to the community than things like "Most Comments". -

I think it sounds like a very reasonable idea. Good thinking Dave!

Lookout Shirley! Looks like a crowd is forming behind this great idea from this funny looking guy! ;-) -
-
@Mike I thought it was that ridiculous looking hat that made him look funny but after taking a second look I realize that is a great looking hat, so you must be right.....
-
-
Hee hee, I'd say Quirky got started with a great idea from a funny looking guy, but I might get in trouble with Ben!

I don't know Shirley, in his profile pic he looks more constipated than funny. You would never know how he acts unless you watch the videos.
See what I mean?

In all seriousness Shirley, how much backing do I need to get this idea for it to really get listened to? I can message a ton more people but it's a solid idea that saves everyone time if used properly, so I don't see why QT wouldn't want to implement it. -
-
No worries, this idea is already on the table and being considered very seriously. No pimping needed. It's just helpful to get a sense of how many people support this idea organically.
-
-
You sure?
Cause I can post a video of me rolling around on the floor kicking and screaming and begging if you need me to.
I have very little shame, and I want to see this implemented badly so I don't have to keep pestering Rob. -
-
Umm. I believe the video is up for community vote as well. Guys?

I know I've asked this before - but I don't recall if it was here or in the forum. An addendum/comment section for continuous updating is absolutely needed. Each and every time I submit an idea, I need to respond to same questions over and over regarding design changes. It will save both the ideator and reviewer a lot of time. Thanks!

This has been asked for before... (more than once even?)
...and I'm still a big supporter of the idea... but let's not over complicate it.
Offer us an area over to the right under ''Visuals and 'Meet the Inventor' where we could post supplemental imagery, and noteworthy suggestions by evaluators. There's all that empty white space over there... let's make use of it. -
-
Stuff in the sidebar gets overlooked as easily as the comments. It needs to be more front and center and obvious but hidden for users who don't want to see it and want to judge the original submission.
-
"obvious but hidden"
...Dave, ya threw me a bit with that one.
Why are you against better use of the evaluation page's real estate? The column to the right (under 'Meet the Inventor') is both empty, and conveniently placed right next to where a user enters in a comment. -

This idea is still under consideration, but I wanted to share some major concerns that came up in discussing this idea:
1. What counts as the real submission? Even though the Edits section would be separate, it creates a gray area where the edits could be seen as part of the idea, even though it wasn't part of the original submission. This leads to more ambiguity when selecting a winning idea.
2. Would adding this section benefit ideators who are not familiar with the Quirky process? Would it benefit ideators who don't want to log on all the time during eval?
Meanwhile, we are rolling out the thumbs up/down feature on comments and proposing marking comments by the ideator of a submission, so that they stand out. I think these changes will address the major concerns that sparked this idea. Agree/disagree? -
-
Two thumbs up on the coming comment ratings!! Looking forward to it. Marking ideator comments also a big plus.
Shirley, you make two very valid points... I could see how mixing edits with original proposal may lead to a bit of confusion, especially when someone is evaluating an idea late in the round after it's been refined a whole hell of a lot by both the community and Ideator. Though. part of me wants to say, well heck, isn't this a good thing? ...but I could see how some unfair reworking of ideas during the round could happen... which could lead to a dispute or two... which would only make for more forum fodder.
Specifically to your second point... Does an editable section benefiting novice Ideators... Maybe only in that newbies forget so much when prepping their first few submission? ...wishing that they could tweak a heading, correct an error, add just one more picture. Thank goodness Shirley's around to save the day. -
