Bumping Ideas Up on the List based on Votes & Comments.

There's no question that new ideas get the most attention/comments/votes in the first day or so. Then they go to idea purgatory on day 2 or 3 never to be voted/commented on again.

People say go to the Pimping Zone, but Pimping ain't easy, and it doesn't work. I suggest that you make it so that when an idea is commented/voted on, excluding comments/votes by the creator, it gets a bump. The more bumps you get, the closer to the top you get. Thereby getting more attention.

I look forward to hearing your feedback,
Daryl

  • The problem with your idea would be that people would get their friends to post meaningless comments on their idea(s) and it would become pointless.

Hey Darryl. Thanks for the feedback. We want to give ideas a fair share of time and we're always trying to figure out new ways of doing this. Recently we added an Ending Soonest tab to try to give some new life by putting them back toward the top as they reach the end of their evaluation period.

Though your idea may allow a submission to continue getting feedback, the worry here is that we're also potentially opening up a problem with where people try to game the system for influence in addition to grabbing a ton of friends to vote for it. For people that are trying to earn influence easily they might just look at popular ideas that continue to be pushed to the top, they will cast a vote for it and continually push a small number of ideas to the top based on activity. Then there could also be great ideas toward the bottom with no significant feedback that don't get moved up because everyone's attention is directed to the popular ones.

We used to have a Most Commented sort option in our old evaluation system and that the same scenario transpired.

    Thanks for your reply Chris.
I guess I am a little distraught because I experienced a lot of participation on my idea on Day One. 20 comments from people who genuinely liked my idea. Then on Day 2 my idea was buried under 100's of other submissions. The feedback and participation has died to nothing.

    I tried pimping. No Results.

I tried participating in the forums, as I do daily and continue to do so. No Results.

I guess my disappointment with the resolution currently in place is that the only time I foresee my idea getting participation is on Day 1 when it is close to the top. and Day 30 when it is about to expire. Not really a great scenario in my opinion. I'm new to Quirky, so I guess this is a lesson in the way things go.

    Thanks again for your reply.
