Disappearing Potential Earnings
What happened to my $315 in Potential Earnings for Social Sales for Pivot Power? It just disappeared.

There's an invisible gray area between potential earnings and available balance, so numbers look like they disappear for a while before they show up in available balance. Basically, potential earnings pull data from presale and in production commitments. When commitments are converted into orders, they no longer show in potential earnings but they may not immediately show up in available balance.
Available balance pulls data from orders which have been paid for, shipped, and influence completely closed out. When all three criteria are met, your earnings from Pivot Power will begin to show in available balance. In the meantime, they are being tracked but not displayed on user dashboards.
I'm working with the tech team to see if we can provide more info in user accounts in the future.

Hey Patti, I'm looking into this now and will be back with an update once I have more info.

Hey Shirley, with that gray area -- it bases the amount on our current influence correct? So say, our influence goes up for buying in presale, is that number going to change or does the presale influence earned only take effect for orders placed after its been locked in/allocated?
-
-
Great question, Cody! Your potential & actual earnings will increase when your influence increases. It's a major reason why we can't push anything into available balance until presales influence has been locked down.

I have over $700 for Wrapster (a product that is has been shipping for months) that have been sitting in my Potential Earnings for both direct and indirect sales since mid January. How long does it take to get paid?

Hey Patti, happy Friday!
Some people don't come back to complete their commitment. Unless they complete it or cancel it, the commitment stays open, and that's the money that you see sitting in your Potential Earnings for direct sales.
For indirect sales, it can take a long time before Quirky is paid by a retailer. As soon as we receive payment, the community share is pushed out to user accounts. I know it feels crazy, but it really can take months. We'd prefer a quicker payday too! -
-
There should be a time window for commitments. If the money isn't real, I don't want it in my account.
Weekend's coming...-
Interesting idea. If you want to, please start an idea thread about putting a time limit on commitments before they're automatically cancelled. We can see what others think!

I lost about $ 100 of "Potental Earnings" while my "Available Balance" grew only a few cents.
Where is the money gone?
Could you pls take a look into my account and check it?

I had about $140 removed from Potential
Currently, about $32 has shown up in Available
This means I still have about $108 or so in processing limbo
I understand there's some limbo time, but how long is that? We're told to watch for it this morning and we're approaching the end of the business day in NY. With only a little moved over, I don't know if I have an accounting issue or if things are being processed still. How do I know when the process is complete? -
-
I'll post an update when all calculations are complete. I heard Nate say something like over 5 million pieces of data were being crunched! Sorry for the premature celebration posts that caused confusion.

Thanks for the response as always, Shirley.
Bear in mind, I'll be OK if it takes until Monday as long as I have a clearer idea. We're all eager to see the money come through, but I prefer the clarity and I'm sure it'll make your job easier.-
Absolutely. Honestly, we just get so excited to share great news here that we jump the gun sometimes! :)

Hey guys, payouts should all be calculated and pushed into accounts by now. Holler if you disagree!

I can't be certain of the exact number, but I think I still have about $25 in limbo. I was sure I was about $485 in potential yesterday and it's down to $342.11 right now ($143 difference) and only about $115 moved over to available, adding to the $56 that was there last night.
Am I remembering incorrectly?
I have every product drilled out in an excel sheet (potential and paid), so I can go through that and get a little more specific, but that was last updated last week. =) -

Following up again with some more clarity...
I didn't go through all 100+ products I have, but I went through all the ones that have converted from potential to paid and any others that have higher potential numbers. What I found is interesting. In just the ones I looked at, I'm down $14.69 in the past 3-4 weeks (I do independent auditing of my earnings when I have the time). This number should be going up, not down. The only thing that should make this go down is cancelled orders.
The notable differences I'm seeing are:
Ember -$8.41
Pivot Power -$6.67
Both are indirect sales losses. Can you confirm large cancelled orders for both or is this an accounting error?
Also, it doesn't look like I've ever gotten paid for any social sales. Have none of them shipped or is this pending for some reason? -
-
Same happened with me...
Potential Earnings dropped from around $722 to about $180 last week...
Confirmed today that available balance grew from about $14 to only about $54. -
-
Me too. About 130 drop in potential, only ~75 made their way into available.
-
-
Thanks for the info, all. I'll find out what's up and be back with an update.

Hey guys, I've touched base with the tech team and these figures are correct. Potential Earnings is only a projection of earnings based on anticipated orders. The drop off in actual earnings occurred because of returns which were subtracted from retailer payment to Quirky, cancelled orders (we were unable to deliver UnHampered on schedule because of production delays), and changes to actual order/shipment quantities.
There is work in progress to show more of this info as the numbers fluctuate. We'll never solve for reality not matching projections, but we're figuring out how to avoid such a drastic change from the account holder's point of view.-
Would be great to see an area for Returns that were charged back to our accounts as well. Tell them to add that ;)

This comes back around to a suggestion I made some time ago (maybe here or on the forums?):
Show cancelled orders in the same way you show orders placed. This doesn't have to be public, but its important for us to know that there's a reason potential earnings vanish. Otherwise, we're left confused. I'd love to see this in my Latest Activity tab.
Something else must have sold well because I've more than evened out now. -
-
Thanks guys, I just responded to the idea thread for displaying earnings in transition. We'll display as much data as we can!
-
-
Still curious about this part...
"Also, it doesn't look like I've ever gotten paid for any social sales. Have none of them shipped or is this pending for some reason?"
This is a different type of issue, though. The money is represented in the data, but the problem is that I've never been paid for one social sale, according to the numbers I see. This has to be in error.-
Hmm, social sales is its own beast. I know tech is taking a holistic look at that whole system. We'll provide full info as soon as we can!

-
Thanks, Shirley. The money's there in reporting, just not ever making it to the paid end of things.

My potential earnings keeps decreasing and I also had a decrease in my social sales amount (but the figures are different).
Can Quirky PLEASE note on our accounts when there is a decrease in money or money in limbo - perhaps adding 2 columns in the dashboard for each product denoting a product returns and products in limbo. Report when there is a decrease in the amount. (ex. -$1.05 for cup - product returned or -$.50 product in limbo) so we know WHAT and WHY the amount changed.
It makes for much better checks and balances.
It is frustrating to try and figure out where the money difference came from unless I download reports daily and compare them - which I don't want to do - nor am I really making much money right now to bother.- view 1 more comment

Thanks for commenting Cody. It really seems like a simple thing to do. Any account $$ changes should be reported in the activity tab. After all, a decrease IS an activity change.

I misread what you were asking so my previous answer was irrelevant. I've just re-read it and now understand what you are asking and would like to see it also. Add a 'Returns' column to Available Balance. The only reason I wouldn't be all for a 'imbo' column is that money in limbo is mostly for presale commitments and that money is going to change quiet a bit based on how much influence you earn so it wouldn't really matter other than having piece of mind that you'll get at least $x.xx once influence is locked in.

Ok, It's been 7 months since the $315 disappeared, and I have never gotten an explanation of where it is OR the money. I think 7 months is long enough to have an answer.
