Follow contributors
Hi, I just got here but I've already noticed a few people with consistently good ideas. I'd like to see when they post ideas or comments. Can we have a box to click next to peoples names so we can add them to our watch list easily? Oh yeah, can we have a watch list to go with it :)?

My only concern with this is that we no longer are following the idea, but the person. It is the invention we should be looking at- and not the personality behind it. It shouldn't really matter who submits it. Then it becomes a popularity contest and it will be a turn off to new quirksters.

Great idea! Keep sending 'em our way.

I would love a little status smiley on my profile page. I feel :-P today.

Great to hear, Jennifer! We're working on all sorts of ways to liven up profile pages.

I would actually add the ability to then sort submissions to list first those contributors that you follow (and potentially often vote for).

I would like Quirky to keep things other than just idea submissions on your dashboard and give you the option of sharing them. A lot of people submit names, taglines, industrial designs and logos and if they are not the winner they get no feed back. Add a tab to our dash board for all of our input and give us the option to make it public for other users. For an example of this you can go to threadless and see how they allow you to handle your submissions.
Once in a while I will submit a name, but I don't know if they have ever gotten a vote or not. I know some people would keep their industrial designs and logo's private, but others would share and this would give users and idea of what your capable of. -

Cool thoughts! Quirky's new design allows for a lot of interaction between community members, both privately and publicly in the forum.
As for following contributors, I would offer the counterpoint that we ask all the ideas in each round to be evaluated within the realm of that round. That way, we're consistently picking the best idea out of the bunch! I know some people have a loyal following and that's awesome. But we want to keep the focus on the pure ideas as much as possible.
I shared some thoughts about providing the vote count in development projects (industrial design, naming, tagline) in another Get Satisfaction thread which are relevant here.
"In addition to the community vote, Quirky has to think about maintaining brand identity, avoiding trademark or patent infringements, how handsome/smart the submitter's mom thinks he/she is (kidding), and whole bunch of other factors.
Since the highest voted submission is not guaranteed to be the winner, the community votes would be information without context."
We consider all suggestions and we want them to keep coming! I'm providing these thoughts so that you know why we don't choose to move forward on all ideas. Thank you for the insightful discussions! -
