Allow the inventor to create names, colors, etc., and have them categorized with the product submission. Their ideas should always "float to the top" along with the product itself. By taking away the inventor's ability to link product+name+color+materials, etc., you are effectively destroying the concept of a cohesive product design. If an inventor has a whole concept, they should be allowed to present it as such and therefore, as the initiator, get the appropriate credit (and income, of course).
Most importantly, you can't let their ideas be buried under an avalanche of submissions and similarities hoping to score by gaming the system.
Give the inventor a greater ability to present their ideas - it's their idea after all.

Hey Wayne. Although many submissions are well thought out and include the details you mentioned, all we really need from the inventor is an idea. We determine the other details through popular vote - we want to let the community decide what the best name/color/tagline/material is. If the inventor's vision is a perfect fit, it'll most likely win the vote or be preserved by us when we put the product through development. In general, all inventors should be aware that their designs and ideas are subject to changes and improvements when they submit.
