Have holiday sales (memorial day, July 4th, etc.)
Almost every other retailer has some sort of sale on a few holidays, I think its time for Quirky to jump on that bandwagon. If it were bad for business other retailers wouldn't be doing it.

Great thinking, guys! We have run holiday promotions and sales in the past, and definitely intend to this year. The growing marketing & publicity teams are developing strategies for driving traffic to the Quirky shop, while the sales team is crunching the numbers to see what kind of deals we can offer to holiday shoppers. It's an exciting time!

Hi! I am wondering if Quirky has plans to really try to bring in extra sales through special holiday marketing or even gift cards? When I found Quirky (last week!) not only did I like the idea of submitting ideas, but I also thought this could be a great place to shop for the holidays. When you go to sites like Amazon, you find gift catagories, and I am thinking maybe it would be good for Quirky to plan for special gift catagories as well. I have noticed that Quirky does special calls for ideas, but maybe focus these on things that would make particularly good gifts for groups of people like "animal lovers" "gardeners" and other groups that often get marketed to at holiday time, in addition to the standard "moms" "dads" "people with everything" kind of catagories.
I do have a special interest in this concept, since I just pitched an idea in the "outdoor gardening" catagory for a new type of garden planner, but I do suspect it might get overlooked amongst all of the ideas for tools and things. But not only is there a need for my item, I think it would make a particularly good gift at holiday time. I mean, I get sick of seeing the SAME boring gift ideas most years in the holiday gift sections...if Quirky offers items that are different and of great quality, I think it could be a big hit, and be more $$ for the inventors who have items for sale or presale. I was thinking that if an item is in presale, the buyer of the gift could recieve a nice card of some kind to give to the "giftee." For example, when given a "travel gift" of whitewater rafting one year, it came in a beautiful box with instructions on how to redeem. Then of course there are good old gift cards.
More sales, more advertising to those who receive gifts, and would help people with ideas for small gift items get a little more attention. The economy isn't great, but many people will buy holiday gifts regardless, so this could be a great thing for everyone. Not to mention, Quirky already like to work with items under $150 which is perfect. If production really is fast, it's not too late to call for submissions for items that would specifically make great gifts, and it might be a quick way to get orders, since the big holiday shopping season will start soon!

Holiday Marketing -Maybe Quirky should specifically try to identify ideas for items that would make excellent holiday gifts and even consider gift cards. -

Ok, well my idea was merged here but it's not really the same idea at all. I am not suggesting lowering prices for items at holiday time, and don't know anyone who buys gifts for July 4th, this is more about coming out with a mini "holiday line" of sorts at holiday time, and marketing to that...specifically seeking ideas for items that are great gifts, that kind of thing. Let's face it, some ideas might be great, but they aren't the kind of thing you buy for a gift and you need a way to present it in the "pre-sale" stage etc...
