Keep the fees from unfeasible inventions (Time Machines, Perpetual Motion, etc.)
I noticed in the terms that if a person submits an idea that is unfeasible (time machine, etc.) that their money is returned. I think that this money should not be returned and instead it should be pooled and split up and paid out to the users who would flag these ideas for quick removal. For example: If 25 ridiculous ideas were submitted in one month for a total of $250 in fees, and the first 5 members who flagged them received credit for flagging them, then the payout would be $2 per red flag. Members would be rushing in to cull out the nonsense. The quality ideas would be more visible and it wouldn't cost any more. It would work just like Add A Similar Product, except that it would be adding a red flag. You could warn people that their money is not going to be returned if they submit red flag inventions, but I think that many people will submit silly ideas anyway.

Hey Jonathan. That's an interesting idea. That said, I'm not sure if this solution would be the right way to go about it. It would change the focus of Quirky.com--instead of people visiting to find good ideas to develop and leave feedback, users might end up visiting simply to earn a quick dollar or influence by finding bad ideas.
Don't worry, this issue is on our radar and will be as we continue to grow. We're continually working on collaborative tools that we hope to spruce up and unveil soon.
