Dear Seon,
Thanks for getting in touch! This is actually a brand new feature rolled out by Quirky, that was explained by our Head of Tech in a recent blog post: I've listed a link to the post below as a reference.
http://aquirkyblog.com/2012/02/eval-v...
Under our old system, we found that folks were voting on as many ideas as possible to increase their chances of receiving influence for their votes. This was not only reducing the effectiveness of community voting, but diluting the amount of influence a user could receive for any one vote (we don't want folks to receive tiny, ineffectual influence percentages!).
The new voting system is intended to encourage members to vote more selectively, for the products they most strongly believe in. This will not only allow Quirky to better utilize customer feedback, but the amount of influence allotted per vote will be much higher than previously.
I hope this was helpful Seon! If you have any further questions or concerns about the system, don't hesitate to ask.-
Thanks for your response
