Push to get Quirky to implement Percentage and Ranking System
I think it would be great if you if Quirky had a percentage and ranking system that the inventor could see in the profile in REAL TIME. This would be used for the inventor to see where their idea is ranked, percentage wise, based on views and votes. As time passes, the inventor would be able to see if the idea moves up or down in percentage. The percentage would be determined by views versus votes. Since we all log in with a username and password , if the same person viewed the item more than once, then it only count as one view so as not to skew the numbers. Example: Out of the 100 people that viewed your idea, 25% of them voted for you. In addition, a single idea could also be ranked OVERALL versus all other ideas that were submitted on the same day. This could have REAL TIME hourly, daily and weekly intervals until the 30 day period ends. It would also have the final 30 day metrics as well. It would help Quirky determine what would be a good idea to market on a weekly basis and also help the inventor determine whether he should resubmit the idea at the end of the 30 days. The reason behind the percentage and ranking system is that some items are not going to get as much exposure than others because of various factors. Example: time of day the idea was posted, how many users were online at the time, category... etc.This would create an even "playing field" for all ideas based on those metrics. Let me know your thoughts?

@Ken, note that TJ is not proposing an _active_ rating system (which is what I understand Quirky had) he is proposing a passive system, in which it is just the computer tallying the information based on idea views and the like. -

@ ScubaEd. That is exactly what I am thinking. It would help the inventor determine if it is a viable idea to pursue and bring to market and make the site a little more interactive for the user. Think of how much more time a user might spend on the site if they were able to see thier ranking in real time. -

I think as it stands now, the inventors actually get very little out of this process unless they make it to UC. It would be nice to cultivate a system that would actually give data to the inventors.It would put Quirky in a more "collaborative light" , as well, more mutually beneficial and not one-sided with the data.That alone would actually be a draw for Quirky over other sites, and it would be fairly automated, so not a ton of extra work once it is up. Inventors would only have access to their own data, unless Q decided to share the rankings with everyone :) This is a good idea, and I would like to think this is an environment where something like this could be seriously considered.

Thanks Rob. It is nice to see the employees of Quirky actually take the time to read the posts and give feedback! 2 thumbs up from me. Of course you would want to keep these metrics private to the users individual profiles so the community doesn't get swayed by the percentages and rankings. This will give an accurate representation on what the public REALLY would like to see. This will be used by the inventor and Quirky staff only in helping determine which ideas will be more apt to be Quirky's next big product. Think of it this way... . The more interactive you can make the site in real time, the more time an individual will stay on Quirky. Therefore, the more pages they will view, the more ideas they will view and vote on and ulimately give Quirky better stats to go by. As it sits right now, someone could have a blockbuster idea but it doesn't get enough votes because a user doesn't stay on the site long enough to view it. I can almost guarantee 95% of the users on Quirky are also inventors. If they are hooked on this site llike I am, then they will keep your site up to see thier own percentages and rankings in real time. While they are viewing that, they will scroll deeper into the ideas and maybe see that one idea that got pushed way down because enough users weren't online when it was posted to get it to bubble up. All about numbers!!!
